Measure Football
Intelligence
SensiBallVR measures the cognitive processes that drive football performance — from visual perception to motor execution.
How Cognitive Assessment
Works
Three precisely timed stages capture the full cognitive chain — from the moment a stimulus enters the player's field of view to the recorded motor response.
Stimulus & Perception
Players are immersed in game-representative VR scenarios and presented with visual stimuli — moving targets, colour cues and spatial signals — focused on perception and decision-making. Eye-tracking records every fixation and gaze shift.
Decision & Processing
Within milliseconds, players must analyse the perceived information, suppress incorrect options and select the correct target — while simultaneously holding a secondary cognitive task in working memory under real time pressure.
Motor Execution
Players execute the selected action — a kick, pass direction or zone selection. Inertial motion sensors and platform sensors simultaneously capture response time and motor accuracy, completing the full cognitive-motor measurement loop.
The Cognitive
Football Model
Every action in football follows a precise cognitive chain — from the moment a stimulus enters the player's field of view to the moment the body executes a response.
Speed Matters
Elite players process this entire chain in under 600 ms. SensiBallVR measures every millisecond of that journey.
Trainable Skills
Every stage of the cognitive chain can be improved through targeted, sport-specific cognitive training protocols.
Measurable Output
SensiBallVR generates precise metrics at each stage — not just a final score, but a complete cognitive map.
From Perception
to Action
Three fundamental cognitive stages determine how players interpret and respond to the game.
Perception
The brain receives and encodes incoming visual information — player positions, ball trajectory, space and opponent movement — before any conscious processing begins.
- Visual field coverage
- Gaze direction & fixation
- Peripheral detection speed
- Pre-receive scanning rate
Decision
Working memory integrates perceived information with tactical knowledge, pattern recognition and situational awareness to select the optimal action under time pressure.
- Working memory capacity
- Decision speed (ms)
- Decision accuracy (%)
- Inhibitory control
Execution
The selected action is translated into a precise motor command — movement, pass, shot or dribble — with speed and accuracy as the measurable performance outputs.
- Motor response accuracy
- Reaction time completion
- Action selection rate
- Cognitive-motor coupling

How Performance
Is Measured
Four core metrics form the quantitative foundation of every SensiBallVR assessment.
Response Time
measured in msThe total elapsed time from stimulus presentation to correct motor response. Captures the speed of the full cognitive chain — perception through execution.
Accuracy
measured in %The percentage of correct responses across all trials. Accuracy is measured independently from speed to capture decision quality under cognitive load.
Gaze Metrics
coverage % · scan freq /secEye-tracking data captures both gaze coverage (proportion of the field scanned) and scan frequency (how often and how systematically the player surveys the environment).
SensiScore™
composite 0 – 100A single composite score derived from all assessed metrics — weighted by scientific importance to football performance. Enables direct player-to-player comparison and longitudinal tracking.
Example Training
Scenario
Ball Delivered
The ball is played toward the player from a set direction. Before receiving, the player must complete a full shoulder scan of the virtual environment.
Target Appears
One or more visual targets (coloured zones, player silhouettes) appear within the player's field of view — requiring rapid detection and processing.
Cognitive Load Added
A secondary cognitive task activates simultaneously — a number displayed in peripheral vision that must be retained in working memory.
Decision Window
The player must decide: identify the correct target, retain the memory task value, and prepare the correct motor response — all within 600 ms.
Strike the Ball
The player executes the strike toward the selected target zone. Response time, directional accuracy and working memory recall are simultaneously recorded.
